Brody Flavin

Brody is a lifelong resident of Harvey County, Kansas and joined Health Ministries in 2021. He brings with him over 16 years of public safety experience, across several disciplines. At HMC Brody is responsible for workplace safety and emergency preparedness.

Steve Engels

Steve is a lifelong Kansas resident and a graduate of Newman University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. He began his career in the medical field working at a cardiac catheterization & electrophysiology laboratory in Wichita, Kansas. Prior to joining HMC, Steve was with the University of Kansas School of Medicine – Wichita in the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program.

Elease Thompson

Elease attended Wichita State University, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences. For over 7 years, she performed a wide spectrum of laboratory testing at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS.

“I’m truly proud to work for an organization that values all individuals in our community. My goals for our laboratory are providing consistency with our results, giving all of our patients a positive experience, and creating efficient processes.”

Samantha Lawrence

Samantha is responsible for supervising the Departments that are directly related to Patient Services. Samantha came to Health Ministries in 2019 bringing over 15 years of management and supervision experience.

Samantha graduated from Friends University with a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management and Leadership and a master’s degree in Business Administration. Samantha was born and raised in Newton and is proud to raise her family in this community.

“I am blessed to be a part of a team that its focus is taking care of patients. I chose HMC because of the commitment to the patients and the community. Being a part of a team that focuses on treating the whole person and that focuses on eliminating any barrier for care is very important to me.”

Tonya Howser

Born and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas, Tonya has worked in nursing since 1989. Beginning in 1990, she worked at McPherson Hospital, most recently serving as the Director of the Intensive Care Unit and the Medical-Surgical Unit.

In 2020, Tonya joined Health Ministries to lead the nursing department. Her passion is to sew value into her staff, which in turn allows the staff to value each and every patient, and each other. She enjoys process improvement and is always looking for ways to improve and develop a new standard of care.

“My goal is to ‘Be Better.’ Be a better clinic. Be better nurses. Be better humans. No matter what we are facing, we can ‘Be Better.’”

Tracy Jarrell

Tracy received her Associate of Science in Nursing degree from Hesston College, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Wichita State University and her Master of Science in Healthcare Leadership degree from Friends University. Tracy has experience in both hospital and clinic settings; most recently at a large regional clinic where her work focused on risk and compliance activities.

Tracy is a native of Newton and loves to be able to serve in this community.

“I was drawn to HMC based on the mission and the servant attitude I saw from staff for the residents of Newton and surrounding communities. I am excited about being able to support Health Ministries Clinic in the mission of promoting and improving the quality of life for the local and surrounding communities. Newton has been my home for a lifetime and I am delighted to be able to care for your family and mine.”

Paul Faber

Paul graduated with a B.A. in Business Administration from Walla Walla University and received
his Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Chadwick University. Paul brings over 20
years of non-profit financial management.

Paul is committed to helping HMC meet its mission to our community.

Angie Schmidt

Angie earned her Bachelor’s degree in social work from Colorado State University, Ft. Collins, Colo., focusing on long-term care administration. She has experience working in a variety of private and public service settings. Angie came to work at Health Ministries in 2014 and helps provide oversight to areas related to compliance and workplace safety.

Tionna Botterweck

As the Chief Operating Officer, Tionna is responsible for the day-to-day oversight and general management of HMC’s operations at our three locations. Tionna leads employees in advancing the company’s mission, vision, core values, strategic priorities and growth goals. She assists in identifying organizational needs, and plays a pivotal role in facilitating resources to develop solutions to solve HMC’s most complex challenges. She partners with the Executive and Leadership Team’s to identify the unmet needs of the patients that HMC is uniquely positioned to serve.

Matthew Schmidt

A licensed specialist clinical social worker, Matthew has 19 years experience working in the behavioral health care field, including more than 10 years as Director of Community Support Services and Access/Emergency Services at a local community mental health center. He has served on numerous statewide committees and taskforces and is active in the community.

Matthew earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Bethel College, North Newton, Kan., and his master’s degree in social work from the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare, Lawrence, Kan.
